      Cecil Stokes, Jr. wrote:
"J.W.J. Cloud died from gunfire, presumably from a murderer, in the Hempstead community known as "Six-Shooter Junction".  His widow, the 39-year-old Laura Frances, bundled up the three kids and moved back to her hometown, Prattville (Autauga County), Alabama. She established a boarding house on the Main Street so that she could be independent and feed her kids."
"Laura's father, Martin BURT, was an early settler of Autauga County. He was famous for arriving by flatboat and building a home with bedroom(s) for his daughters upstairs and the only stairway ascending from the master bedroom. (That home is now owned and occupied by a retired Air Force colonel.)"
"Howell MURPHREE of the Dothan/Troy, AL, area went to Prattville to take a good job with Continental Gin Company of Prattville. He stayed at Mrs. Cloud's boarding house and got acquainted with Mrs. Cloud's daughter, Willie, and they married. Then, Howell's little sister came visiting. She met and subsequently married Mrs. Cloud's son, James Ross Cloud (father of James William "J.W." Cloud and grandfather of Cecil Gaines Stokes Jr.). The two couples remained in Prattville and had a bunch of kids who grew up in houses facing one another across Main Street."
"One of those kids was J.W. "Jim" Cloud, who settled in Huntsville after WWII. Cec's [my] mother was one of the others. Their brother, Burt, was the third. Unfortunately, neither Willie Cloud Murphree nor James Ross Cloud survived to see all of their children reach adulthood. Thus, the double-first cousins became even closer and the Cloud connection was lost if not discarded.  Only Jim Cloud has exhibited any interest in learning more about it, and he has influenced Cec [me] to be interested."
"Cec [I] went to high school in Nashville (because that's where my father found opportunity in the shoe industry), graduated from Auburn University, and settled in Huntsville because this is where the high-tech challenges of "the missile gap" were being worked. My siblings and Cloud-related first cousins are currently in AL (Huntsville & Gulf Shores), GA (Atlanta & Griffen), TX (Houston), NC (Concord), and Argentina."
"While Cloud kinship was apparently being forgotten in the 1886 to 1975 period, there was plenty of interaction with Murphree kin. The Murphrees had settled in the middle-Tennessee region (Murfreesboro, TN), gone to southeast Alabama with a herd of Tennessee horses, and found new homes. Cec [I] grew up with lot's of interaction with Murphree kinfolks; but my two uncles and their wives and kids were the only Clouds I ever knew until I joined CFA and the email "Cloud_list"."
