J.D. Shires Funeral Is Set
BUCHANAN DAM -- Jeff D. (Pop) Shires, 82, died Tuesday June 10, in the Kerrville VA Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Hill Baptist Church at Buchanan Dam with the Rev. Tommy Allen officiation. Burial will be in the Bluffton Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 16, 1893 in the state of Washington. He was married to Beulah Hopkins June 23, 1921 and the couple had retired from the restaurant business and lived at Golden Beach for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Llano Masonic Lodge 242, Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church, and a World War I veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beulah Shires of Buchanan Dam; two sons, J.D. Shres Jr. of Shreveport, La., and Thom Shires of DeSoto; two sisters, Mrs Effie Lanier of Sneads, Fla, and Mrs. Elsie Grant of Houston; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be C.R. Lindsey, Roy Smith, I.R. Huchingson, Ira Floyd, Nelson McKinney and C.M. Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Odom, C.G. Miffleton, Gr. R.C. Felts, Dr. H.V. Felts, the Rev. Bill Kenney, A.J. Phillips and Harry Shapiro.
